When I first started teaching in Special Education I was in a satellite program, housed in a public school. I was the only one teaching significant support needs students in my school and it was often a lonely job. I regularly described myself as “an island”. That first year was hard, I had to learn fast and I had to do it mostly alone. I made so many of my own resources, I began to wonder if other teachers out there teaching Special Education felt the same way I did. Turns out, they did! As time went on I was able to develop several solid, informative, and supportive relationships with other Special Needs teachers, relationships I value deeply. One thing we shared a lot of were ideas. Every year we have students with different needs and different abilities, so we are constantly making new materials and resources. Since I am already making them, I figured why not share them with the Special Needs community!
